While I was on assignment for Vecu Magazine in Vegas I decided to head to the famed Picasso restaurant in the Bellagio Hotel and Casino but rather than tell you about this flop of a dinning experience like I do in the September issue of Vecu, I though I would tell you of a culinary high that Vegas offered.
It was my final night in Vegas and I was feeling little low. Not because I had lost any money at my favourite table game, Blackjack (quite the opposite), but that I had very few delicious culinary delights in Las Vegas, a foodie’s dream. After spending $450 on a dinner for two at Picasso I was ready to give up on one of my favourite cities in America.
I decided to take a chance in the Venetian Hotel and Casino. I had stayed here once before and found the rooms to be extremely spacious and great for those who have families of 4 or just desire more luxury for a lower price. However, the only down side was the multiple elevators we had to take to get to our room and the maze like hall ways – not good at 3 in the morning after a few flutes of Champagne!
Anyways, on this night in Vegas, I needed some comfort which was why I chose Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bistro which specializes in French comfort food. It was my turn to treat two other guests that we ran into down in Las Vegas so I was crossing my fingers that the final bill wouldn’t have been as startling as Picasso’s.
We treated ourselves to a unique but classic take on Foie Gras served inside a terrine. We got the 5oz size and later regretted it due to all the bread we ate in our attempt to polish the jar clean. The bread itself was knee-buckiling! We then deiced to order the special which was duck with cherries accompanied by a sweet and savoury cornbread. The dinner was perfect and it restored my faith in the culinary talents available in Sin City. Luckily, this dinner did not break the bank ($340 for 4)!
