Sunday night was my family’s Thanksgiving dinner and was it delicious! Thanks Mom & Dad!
To prepare for the day I visited a series of local cheese artisans, the Kelowna Farmer’s Market and a revamped Italian specialty shop. My family definitely goes all out for the day and this year we had a total of 8 dinner guests. My mom cooked the golden turkey, my sister did the mashed potatoes and my grandparents brought a pumpkin pie (just in case my homemade one didn’t turn out so great) and chocolates.

This year I decided to make a triple chocolate pumpkin pie with ginger snap cookie crust and some delicious buttery rolls. Both were a hit, luckily, and the day was rain free. Both are worth making again. The buttery rolls will definitely be making an appearance for Christmas dinner at my house.
As for the wine, we tried our local Mission Hill Winery Pinot Noir wine to pair with the juicy turkey and my favourite stuffing!
It is tradition in my family to have Planes, Trains and Automobiles playing as we nibble on our cheese plate and sip wine or spumante, anxiously awaiting the big reveal of the turkey.
Sunday offered a clear blue day with spots of red, burgundy and yellowing greens along the landscape. The Okanagan lake was like glass, calm and deep blue.
If you are ever in the Kelowna area I do recommend you head down to the Carmelis Cheese Artisan for a tasting of various cheeses made from goat milk. I thought the tastes would be fairly similar, however, the textures and flavours were unique to each cheese type. They also make their own gelato and offer an amazing view of Kelowna (including West Bank).
I visited the newly renovated Valoroso to complete our meat and cheese plate. They added a great little cafe that offers freshly made pizzas, paninis, salads and pastas. I definitely will be returning to try their cappuccino as the place was too packed with people this past holiday weekend.

I would like to congratulate Stephanie on winning the free issue of Vecu Magazine (Oct./Nov.)
that features my latest article on Florence, Italy and the unique Il Latini restaurant.
And…does anyone know a good detox program? I am still so full from this weekend!
