It doesn’t truly feel like Springtime until the cherry, apple and pear orchards bloom their flowers of white and pink throughout the valley. The wind surfers all flock to the beaches as the breeze strengthens to support their colourful kites. The flutters of sand and lake water are kicked up as the onslaught of observers relax with a good view freckled with white sail boats and neon speed boats.
Rain storms are frequent but the sun shines through just enough to get us all excited for the promising summer.
The wineries show sings of life as they prepare for the Spring Okanagan Wine Festival during the first 11 days of May and I start to plot my blog post comeback with all the events about to take place.
This is what Spring is like in my neck of the woods via Instagram…
The winery pictured above is of St Hubertus and is just a 15 minute walk away from my home. This is one of the reasons I love living in Kelowna and the Okanagan in general…wineries are never far from your front door.
Spring storms aren’t always dreary…
The Okanagan is the envy of Canada with our quality produce and the various unique microclimates speckled throughout the valley creating ideal conditions for all kinds of grapes to be grown.
Beach life is alive and well as soon as it gets to be above 0˚C really. These die hards will brave chilling winds and the cold Okanagan Lake as early as March to catch some air by kite surfing. Luckily we have a lot of sun in the valley as well.
This is a view from Greata Ranch Winery located in Summerland – just a short 40 minute drive or so from Kelowna. The Spring Okanagan Wine Fest starts May 1st – 11th and features some very unique wineries in spectacular venues with views like this. My dance card is starting to overflow with events and tours. From a meadery and a wine tour to an exclusive wine unveiling so be sure to check in next week to hear all about what Spring is like during the Okanagan Valley Wine Festival.
I have a lot planned for the first week of May so be sure to stay tuned.
